Bad News and Good News

Bad news first? Rip the bandaid and get it over with? Alright. The bad news is that my insurance company has denied my coverage for my oocyte cryopreservation. We are making an appeal and gathering letters from multiple professionals in support to get my eggs frozen. I do not think we have sent it in yet, as I do not currently have all of my letters in yet. However, my mom believes that I will be able to have this covered by insurance, and that they just don't know how to code or deal with this situation. I was only able to find 2 other transmen online who have had their eggs frozen. The first one, had his frozen prior to starting testosterone and the article I read didn't mention anything about him using insurance to cover the procedure(s). The second guy, I believe paid out of pocket. So for all I know, I may be the first trans guy to have his eggs frozen and try to make their insurance company pay for it.
The good news is that this morning I received a call from my local hospitals access center. Our access center is where all referrals are sent to and they try to schedule them and have insurance cover them. So Erica, the woman who left the message, informed us that my insurance company has approved 6 visits to Johns Hopkins! The visits expire next April 2020, so hopefully this might push me up the list of people waiting. Now I'm not sure what exactly "visits" mean, but I'm stoked because this means that I at least will finally get a date back for a consultation. Woohoo!!
