How To Change Your Name

I spent a lot of sleepless nights deciding on a new name for myself. I mean, this was what I was going to be called for the rest of my life! I was originally named after my grandfather, Kenneth, and my father's grandmother, Louise. So I still wanted to honor what my parents had thought about so long ago. I ended up with "Logan Kennedy". Nice ring to it eh? Anyways, once I finally made my decision, I got a CN-1 form (In Maine it's called this, I'm unaware of any other names for other states or provinces.) from my county's Probate Court, which ran me around $80 to obtain and file with the court. I got a court date of about 2-3 months after submission (however this will vary on where you live and how often they do these kind of hearings). Luckily, when the day finally came my name was first on the docket. The judge just asked if I was doing this to escape any kind of debt, which obviously I replied with "No, your honor.", and just like that, he granted my name change and wished me good luck. From here, I was able to change my birth certificate ( and obtain a copy ($15), and take it to the DMV/BMV and change my license, I believe this was around $50. From there, I was able to change my social security card.
